MILKRUN
Best overall instant grocery delivery app

Finder Score:
★★★★★Pros
- Delivery is super fast
- Very convenient
- Great value on items and delivery cost
Cons
- Limited curated product range
- Items can go out of stock quickly
- Delivery areas currently quite limited
The onions are sautéing, the chicken is browning and the rice is in the rice cooker. Then you realise: you're completely out of soy sauce. How can you make chicken fried rice without soy?! A mad dash to the supermarket would be in order - unless you use MILKRUN. Download this app, and you can have a range of groceries delivered to your door in just 10 minutes.
MILKRUN is designed to be the ultimate pantry "top up" tool. It's not designed for a full grocery shop; you can login to Woolies or Coles for that.
Instead, MILKRUN can deliver you a bag of essential groceries (or maybe 2, at a stretch - your courier is on a bike) if you're located in Sydney's CBD or surrounds. It's ideal for when you have a craving but don't want to leave the house; you're in the middle of cooking and need urgent supplies, stat; or if you've got little ones and a grocery run seems oh-so-hard, but the kiddos need to be fed.
Delivery is free for orders over $30 (and just $2.99 for orders under $30), and prices are on a par with supermarket RRPs, making MILKRUN the ideal combination of convenience and value.
Voly
Cheapest delivery

Finder Score:
★★★★★Pros
- Good product range is growing
- Great value
- Fast delivery
Cons
- Delivery areas limited to Sydney at the moment

Out of all the instant grocery delivery apps that are currently available, Voly is the closest to giving MILKRUN some real competition.
Voly promises delivery within 10–15 minutes, which isn't quite as speedy as MILKRUN but it's still pretty damn good. It also has similar products, pricing and app experience.
But where Voly just slides ahead is the delivery price at just $1.99, regardless of how small the order is. You can't be mad about that.
Now to be fair, MILKRUN does offer free delivery, but you have to spend at least $30. This is incredibly good, but we're picking the winner of this category based on the standard price. And that's Voly.

When MILKRUN says it delivers in under 10 minutes, it means it. I was genuinely skeptical about this, but was proven wrong.
The biggest shock was when I received a notification that the order was already on the way a mere 1 minute and 58 seconds after I had placed it. And it was a random group of items, too. How?!
Low and behold, the order arrived within about 8 minutes and I was beyond impressed. And as an added bonus, it was free delivery because I spent over $30. Incredible.
Uber Eats
Honourable mention

Finder Score:
★★★★★Pros
- Good app design
- Decent product range
Cons
- Hidden delivery costs
- Not the fastest

Buy at Uber EatsWe have to mention UberEats here as it does grocery deliveries now.
Thanks to already being firmly established, the grocery section of the UberEats app is streamlined and easy to use. You can browse as well as see what specials are available. It also uses location data to let you choose where you'd like to order from.
If you don't want to download yet another app, UberEats will do the job just fine for you. You just won't get the insane speed or same cheap delivery fees of MILKRUN or Voly.

Why you can trust our picks

For this list, we carefully picked apps that offered the best prices, product selections and customer service. At the time of writing SEND and Aircart deliveries were not available in the Sydney CBD so we could not test them.

InstantGrocery review: Maybe the worst app I’ve had the displeasure of using
InstantGrocery is one of several ‘instant’ delivery service apps that have popped up in Australia. But sadly the app is really quite bad.
-

Quicko isn’t the quickest grocery delivery service app out there, but it has the customer service and charm to keep you watching this space.
