M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H

  • Year of release: 1972
  • Cast: Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers, Loretta Swit, Jamie Farr, William Christopher

An iconic dramedy, M*A*S*H managed to find humour in horror, which is why we'll probably still be watching it decades from now.

The series, which aired from 1972 to 1983, follows a team of doctors and support staff stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in South Korea during the Korean War. They quickly figure out that laughter is the best way to deal with their current circumstances, so they do their best to keep their spirits up.

The show balances silly situations with sobering developments brilliantly, commenting on the nature of war while also emphasising character development. If you haven't seen it yet, there's no time like the present to familiarise yourself with Hawkeye and the rest of the gang.

  • Cast: Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal

Futurama revolves around a pizza delivery boy who is accidentally frozen in 1999 and wakes up on New Year's Eve 2999. Smelling a chance to start fresh, he goes to work for a delivery service that transports packages to all five quadrants of the universe, accompanied by a beautiful one-eyed female alien and a surprisingly human robot.

Inventive and hilarious, this adult animation is an exquisite blend of sci-fi and comedy. Plus, it often veers into satirical territory and the background gags are delicious. The future may not be particularly bright, but Futurama's present is worth exploring.
