How to compare coffee beans

Keep an eye out for these factors to find the best coffee beans for your personal taste:

  • Arabica and Robusta? These are the two most popular coffee beans in the world. Arabica has low acidity, while Robusta has more acidity and a bitter flavour. Arabica also has less caffeine content and is sweeter. Robusta has grainy undertones and more caffeine content.
  • If you want your cup to have a smoother taste, go for dry and light-coloured beans, which have been roasted for a shorter period of time. For a stronger coffee taste, choose coffee beans with a shinier and darker appearance. These have been roasted for longer.
  • Consider the caffeine content. Lightly roasted coffee beans have higher caffeine content, while darker ones have less caffeine. If you want something more balanced, pick coffee beans that are medium roast.
  • Before buying coffee beans, check the roast date. This will tell how many days have passed since the beans were roasted. The fewer the days passed since roasting, the fresher the beans are.
