What to consider when buying low-cost tech on Black Friday

Warranty and service

The cheapest tech deals are often made possible by importing products from overseas. Provided you do your research, these products can be just as capable and reliable as local stock, but it's worth keeping in mind that if something does go wrong, you'll typically have to send the product back to its country of origin for repairs or replacement. This can be a lengthy and occasionally convoluted process, but it's the price you pay for those sweet, sweet discounts.

Brands

For certain products, you'll often find lesser-known brands offering alternatives to the household names at a much lower price. Purchasing these products can be something of a gamble, since they typically use lower-quality components in order to undercut the competition. Depending on the product, the savings may justify this compromise, but be sure to read a few reviews before you throw down your cash to ensure you don't end up with a dud.
