0% on balance transfers for 30 months
The Westpac Low Rate card currently boasts the longest interest-free balance transfer offer on the market. If you apply online by 28 February 2018, you can take advantage of 0% interest on balance transfers for 30 months. That’s two and a half years to pay off your debt without forking out any additional interest costs.
You can also save with a $0 annual fee in the first year, which reverts to a relatively low standard fee of $59 p.a. However, you will have to pay a 2% balance transfer fee, which could impact your overall savings. Plus, when the 30 month promotional period ends, any remaining balances will collect the 21.49% p.a. cash advance rate.
0% on balance transfers for 26 months
The Citi Rewards Platinum card also has a lengthy promotional period of 0% on balance transfers for 26 months. This offer is available to new cardholders who apply and are approved by 30 June 2018.
It also has a reduced annual fee of $49 in the first year ($149 p.a. thereafter). However, you will also have to pay a 2.5% balance transfer fee when you first move your debt to the new card.
When the introductory offer ends, any remaining balances will revert to 21.74% p.a., so you should aim to clear the entire debt before this applies to avoid interest.
NAB Premium card (Exclusive to finder)
This long-term balance transfer deal is exclusive to our users! If you apply for the NAB Premium card via finder, you’ll score 0% on balance transfers for the first 25 months. Elsewhere, this card only offers 0% for 20 months, so it’s an easy way to get a few extra months to clear your debt without the burden of interest.
It’s also one of the few cards that doesn’t charge a balance transfer fee, which could also help you save. However, this card does have a $90 annual fee, so make sure this cost doesn’t outweigh the interest savings from the 0% balance transfer offer.
If you haven’t cleared your debt by the time the promotional offer ends, any remaining balance will collect the cash advance rate of 21.74% p.a.
0% on balance transfers for 24 months
If you apply for the St.George Vertigo Platinum – Online Offer card by 28 February 2018, you can pay off your balance transfer with no interest for 24 months. It may be the shortest offer in this roundup, but it’s still one of the longest interest-free promotions on the market.
The previous offer for this card (which expired on 31 January 2018) included a first year annual fee waiver, but the $99 annual fee is back for new cardholders for now. However, this card does not charge a balance transfer fee when you first move your debt over.
Once the first two years are up, any remaining debt from your balance transfer will collect the cash advance rate of 21.49% p.a.
