Beauty Blender concealer

The sister product to beautyblender's Bounce foundation is finally here, but does it live up to the hype?

Why we love this product

Beautyblender's Bounce Liquid Whip Long-Wear Foundation has been one of the biggest makeup drops that we've witnessed over the past couple of years. The announcement that the famous makeup sponge brand was releasing its own line just about broke the Internet and the foundation itself has been highly acclaimed ever since it arrived in stores.

Lightweight and long-wearing, the foundation is still one of my favourite foundations to this day so, naturally, as soon as I heard that a complementary concealer was launching, I had to try it immediately. Touted as "complexion perfection" though, the product had a lot to live up to. So, how did it fare?

The quick verdict

Why is it good? The lightweight, stay-all-day formula works perfectly with the foundation to give a naturally flawless finish.

How much is it? $42 (7.65mL)

Where to buy it? Sephora

First impressions

Similar to the foundation, the beautyblender Bounce Airbrush Liquid Whip Concealer arrives in a massive 40 shade range. Unlike some other brands on the market, these 40 hues are actually distinctly different in colour, with an equal amount of light and deep shades on offer, which is amazing to see.

While the shades have been made to complement the foundation as best as possible, you can also opt to go up to two shades lighter, or two shades darker, depending on whether you want your concealer to be a cover-up, highlighter or contour product.

As soon as you unscrew the lid and pop out the brush, you're met with a thick squelch which tells you immediately that this is going to be a fairly heavy-duty product. Just a few dabs of the product under the eye (blended out with a beauty blender, of course), works to give you immediate results.

I decided to use my concealer as a highlight to reduce my dark circles, and grabbed a slightly lighter shade than I normally would have opted for (shade 2.20 in light/olive). As you can see below, the end result was an instant brightening of the under eye area that took me from "in need of a third cup of coffee" to "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed".

Just like the foundation, the concealer is fairly easy to blend out and gives that nice natural, skin-like finish. A dual-sided doe-foot applicator also helps to make application a breeze, with the generous head eliminating the need to double dip.

While I did encounter a little bit of creasing under the eye area, it was nothing that a bit of powder couldn't overcome.

The most impressive thing for me had to be just how long-lasting the product actually is. As someone with combination skin, I often get some product break up halfway through the day. Even after spending the whole day at work though, I didn't see any real movement in the product, which really has been the selling point for me.

In terms of the formula, the concealer has a nice mix of hyaluronic acid and tetrapeptides, which means that it hydrates and plumps the skin rather than drying it out. As an added bonus, it's also free of parabens and phthalates, is vegan and cruelty-free and doesn't feel heavy or cakey on the skin.

Verdict

Just like the Bounce Liquid Whip Long-Wear Foundation, the Airbrush Liquid Whip Concealer manages to look seamless, while still covering up those pesky skin concerns. I love that it is a very similar formula to the foundation, making it easy to use the two in tandem for a really natural look.

Despite being quite heavy-duty, I also really appreciate that it's lightweight enough that I forget that I'm wearing it. All of this combined with the serious staying power has made the concealer a new favourite in my makeup bag.

Affordability

Coming in at $42, the beautyblender Concealer unfortunately doesn't come cheap. If you compare it to other highly-coveted concealers on the market (like those from BECCA or Tarte) though, it does sit at a fairly similar price point.

Considering how little of the product you actually need to use to get results too, this one little stick is guaranteed to last you for some time. For that alone, I feel that it's worth splashing some cash on.

Where to buy

You can shop the beautyblender Airbrush Liquid Whip Concealer in-store and online at Sephora Australia.
