Rethink dry shampoo, because this wonder-product can do more than just soak up oil.

Why we love this product

Dry shampoo is a must-have beauty product for many people. We all live busy lifestyles, and it's not manageable (or healthy) to wash your hair every night. The solution? Dry shampoo. A hair product that soaks up excess oil and makes your hair last another day without washing. Dry shampoos have been around for years but they recently made a popular comeback around 2010. No longer a secret, dry shampoo is at the front of every beauty cupboard.

Brand Batiste is certainly one of the most popular dry shampoos on the market, and now it's created a range of new products to offer in addition to its original formula. Enter Dry Shampoo + Volume, Dry Shampoo + Hydrate, Dry Shampoo + De-Frizz and Dry Shampoo + Damage Control. Each of these is a dry shampoo specifically formulated to target a hair concern. We all have different hair types so why shouldn't we have a dry shampoo to suit that hair type?

I've recently tried the Dry Shampoo + Volume and I can say that it definitely delivers on its volumising promises. It's the most volumising dry shampoo, or any other hair product for that matter, that I've ever tried.

My hair is thick and I have a whole lot of it. I start seeing oil at about the third day of unwashed hair and I often use dry shampoo to fix that problem for me. It fixes the issue of excess oil. But I have another issue. After a few days my hair appears thin and lifeless at the top. So I usually follow my dry shampoo with more products to add a bit more volume to my hair. Then I'll leave the house with a head full of multiple products and just wished that I'd washed it.

The quick verdict

Why is it good? It soaks up all the oil in your hair but provides incredible volume.

How much is it? $12.95

Where to buy it? Chemist Warehouse and will be coming to Priceline in May.

Dry Shampoo + Volume promises to give your hair a much-needed refresh while adding life and volume – and this was definitely my experience. It is infused with collagen which means it really works to plump your locks and give them life. It somehow mimics the feeling of a fresh blow-dry from the salon and I am kind of (very) obsessed. When I use this product, it gives me body and texture but still feels very lightweight. Plus, it actually lasts about 2-3 days which means I don't have to keep adding more dry shampoo as the days go by.

I have used quite a lot of dry shampoos in the past and I am very impressed with the new formula from Batiste. I have used the original formula for years and it was definitely one of my favourites. In particular, I loved the Batiste Tropical version because the smell was delicious. Hello Hawaii! Another one I love is the Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+ BOHO REBEL, because it has a hint of colour which saved me having to get rid of any white residue. But I must say the Dry Shampoo + Volume is a new favourite.

To use the dry shampoo, I shake the can well and spray about 30cm away from my hair. I spray it on the roots and massage it thoroughly, using my fingertips to work the product into my hair. I think this technique works best to maximise the volumising effect.

Double-duty products are all the hype right now, an idea that Batiste has acknowledged. Batiste's original formula of dry shampoo is great, but things are changing. We shoppers need convenience and we love products that can address multiple issues. This new product is definitely that. It's an all-in-one, and it's the only one I need to get my hair looking fabulous mid-week.

One thing worth mentioning, when using this dry shampoo I found there is some white residue. It's not a big deal, all dry shampoos leave residue. But this new formula does promise not to leave white marks or a white cast on your hair. That's not the case. It leaves a white cast, but one that is significantly less than the original Batiste formula. And it's easy to get rid of with a quick massage. I don't have to sit there for five minutes trying to get my hair back to normal. Plus the nozzle is definitely different to the original, which makes the white residue a little easier to control. It produces a finer, slower mist which means the product is distributed a-lot more evenly.

Just like the rest of the dry shampoo range from Batiste, the fragrance is delightful. The Dry Shampoo + Volume smells fresh and floral, but it's not overpowering. As I said, the stand-out performer for me is definitely the Dry Shampoo + Volume but the brand has addressed a wide range of hair concerns, which we love.

The rest of the range includes:

Affordability

At $12.95 for 200mL of product, this product is reasonably priced. It's similar pricing to the rest of the Batiste range so I will definitely be buying this product once it's finished. A can of standard Batiste usually lasts me for two months, and I'm estimating this will be about the same.

Where to buy?

The new Rethink Dry Shampoo range from Batiste is available right now at Chemist Warehouse and will be coming to Priceline in May. You can also buy the original formula of Batiste dry shampoo at Coles and eBay.
