This week’s bargain phones: iPhone X, Samsung S9+, LG G7 ThinQ

Alex Kidman 7 August 2018 NEWS

Save serious money by buying your next premium handset from Samsung, Apple or LG in our weekly bargain round-up.

Premium phones have a serious aspirational aspect to them, but that also means they command significant price points.

Every week, we check the prices online merchants are charging for a range of premium smartphones. We highlight the best bargains to make it easy for you to save.

We've selected the lowest cost version of each handset. That often limits your colour choices. Some vendors do put a premium on certain hues, so if there's a colour listed, it's usually because that specific hue is on sale.

Prices are as advertised on each vendor's website on 07 August 2018. Availability and pricing are subject to change without notice.

iPhone X 64GB

While we wait for the official announcement of the 2018 version of the iPhone X – possibly the iPhone XI, or maybe the iPhone X 2, or perhaps just "iPhone X" again – the 2017 model sits as Apple's current flagship phone.

That also means it's Apple's most expensive phone by a significant margin. It's tough to find a real "bargain" on an iPhone X, but it's certainly feasible to save a few dollars when buying outright.

Samsung Galaxy S9+

It's reveal week for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, although if you want to know what Samsung will announce in the wee hours of Friday morning, we've got the full details right here.

The Note 9 is expected to supplant the Galaxy S9+ as Samsung's "flagship" phone, although it might not be for you if you don't want the S-Pen or larger display of the Note line. The Galaxy S9+ is still our favourite all-round premium handset in what is a very competitive market, and its age means that there are more than a few bargains around.

If you're looking for a phone contract or more detail we've gathered everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S9+ here.

LG G7 ThinQ

LG's current flagship handset is the LG G7 ThinQ, a phone we've recently reviewed with mixed impressions, at least in part because it's priced right up around the premium space where LG often sells at a discount.

What that means in practical terms is that if you can get a serious discount on the LG G7 ThinQ, it becomes a much more compelling option.
