This week’s bargain phones: Save on iPhone 8 Plus, Galaxy S9 or LG G7 ThinQ

Alex Kidman 19 June 2018 NEWS

Save on the best premium smartphones from Apple, Samsung or LG with our round-up of the best outright deals.

If you're keen on buying a phone outright and matching it up with a highly affordable SIM-only plan, you're already budgeting for the often high price of a smartphone. You can always save by buying mid-range or entry level models, but it's also feasible to score a bargain on a more premium model if you shop around.

Each week we do the hard work of comparing phones to find you the best deals on the most popular handsets in Australia.

To compare, we've chosen the lowest cost version of each handset available with each online vendor. That can limit your colour choices because some vendors charge more for specific finishes, and discounts are not available across the range.

Prices are as advertised on each vendor's website on 19 June 2018. Availability and pricing is subject to change without notice.

iPhone 8 Plus 64GB

The iPhone X gets the headlines, and it will no doubt be the basis for 2018's iPhone line-up in design terms, but we reckon the iPhone 8 Plus is the wiser buy. Sure, you don't get FaceID, but you do get a much better, longer-lasting battery. After all, FaceID isn't going to do you much good when your iPhone X is flat.

If your budget can't cope with the outright cost of an iPhone 8 Plus, we've gathered up everything you need to know about the iPhone 8 Plus, including contract plans here.

Here are the best deals this week for the iPhone 8 Plus 64GB from retailers selling to Australian customers.

Samsung Galaxy S9

We've seen a lot of competition in the just-over-$1,000 price point for premium Android phones, and it's pretty clear that it's Samsung they're gunning for. $1099 outright can buy you a Huawei P20 Pro, a Sony Xperia XZ2 or an HTC U12+, for example.

Still, many Australians are fiercely attached to the Samsung Galaxy line, and its status as a phone released earlier in 2018 means that there's a lot more money to be saved by shopping around.

If you'd prefer a Galaxy S9 on contract, we've collected everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S9 here.
