This week’s bargain phones: Save on iPhone X, Galaxy S9+ or Google Pixel 2XL

Alex Kidman 12 June 2018 NEWS

Save on premium smartphones from Apple, Samsung or Google with our round-up of the best outright deals.

2018 has been a great year for premium phones, with a wide variety of choices. More Australians are coming on board with buying a phone outright and going on a SIM-only contract. In the premium space that means ponying up the big bucks upfront, or does it?

You can save by smartly shopping around, and we've done the hard work of comparing to find you the best deals on the most popular handsets in Australia.

To compare, we've chosen the lowest cost version of each handset available with each online vendor. That can limit your colour choices, because some vendors charge more for specific finishes, with discounts not available across the range.

Prices are as advertised on each vendor's website on 12 June 2018. Availability and pricing is subject to change without notice.

iPhone X 64GB

There was no new iPhone at WWDC 18, but we did get a glimpse of what's to come in iOS 12 last week. That leaves the iPhone X in the command position in Apple's iPhone family, along with a premium price.

If your budget can't cope with the outright cost of an iPhone X, we've gathered up everything you need to know about the iPhone X, including contract plans here.

Here are the best deals this week for the iPhone X 64GB from retailers selling to Australian customers.

Samsung Galaxy S9+

The Galaxy S9+ still sits as our "best" phone of 2018, based on its combination of features including its excellent camera, expandable memory and the inclusion of a headphone jack. That's not to say it doesn't have competition, and that puts pressure on its price, as does the upcoming prospect of the Galaxy Note 9.

We're seeing more detail around the Google Pixel 2 XL's successor of late, although it's still likely to be a late 2018 arrival. Google only arrives when it wants to, and not before, and that'll almost certainly also be when Android P is ready to roll.
