Bankwest launches digital credit cards
No more waiting for your credit card to be delivered.
Bankwest has today announced customers applying for a credit card will be able to start using their card almost as soon as it's approved. Called a digital credit card, a virtual version of your card will be made available in the Bankwest app for customers to use. The digital credit card will be able to add to digital wallets for contactless payments, online shopping and more.
The news comes soon after the announcement that Bankwest would be offering Apple Pay to customers sometime in January 2019. This is sure to be a welcome announcement, with contactless payments via a device having been available to Bankwest customers using Google Pay since 2016.

The digital credit card also joins a slew of other contactless technology already available to Bankwest customers. In January 2018 it launched a Halo ring which allowed customers to link to their Bankwest debit cards and make contactless payments. The bank has also tested other types of wearable tech including a key ring fob, a fitness style wristband and a clip that can be attached to a wristband or watchband, all of which are NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow the wearer to make contactless payments.
Bankwest isn't the first bank to offer digital credit cards to customers though. NAB announced it would be offering this to customers in 2016 as part of its mobile banking revamp.
If you have been approved for a Bankwest credit card, follow these steps to access your card:
