Father's Day is arguably the best shopping event specifically for men.
A 2023 Finder survey of 1,073 Australians has revealed what the average person spends for Father's Day and what gifts are most popular with dads. Here is what we found.
How much does the average Aussie spend for Father's Day?
Of those planning to mark the occasion, the average person is set to spend $109, bringing the nationwide total to $950 million.
Chocolate (9%), homemade gifts or food (8%) and something for his home or car (8%) are also popular choices.
Approximately 45% said they don't have a father or their family does not celebrate the event.
Which generation spends most on Father's Day?
Gen Z are predicted to spend the most overall this Father's Day ($119). Baby boomers plan to spend the least ($54).
According to the survey, women (51%) exhibit a higher inclination to celebrate Father's Day compared to men (36%).
However, men are planning to spend more on their gifts than women, at $120 and $101, respectively.
How to save money on Father's Day
Shop during the sales. You can pick up goodies for Dad at a fraction of the usual price in the lead-up to Father's Day. Many online stores offer Father's Day sales on popular items such as clothes, grooming products and tech. (See our selection of hand-picked deals below.)
Go DIY. "It's the thought that counts" might be a cliche but it's actually true when it comes to Father's Day gifts. A homemade gift is sure to go down well with sentimental dads.
Online shopping can be cheaper for first-time customers. Many retailers provide a 10–20% discount to new customers who register online using their email address. This is an easy way to secure a bargain and you can always unsubscribe at a later date.
Get siblings to chip in. If you have brothers and/or sisters, consider pooling your resources together and purchasing a joint gift.
