Australians are moving towards small group tours and authentic experiences
Travellers are looking for more authentic and sustainable adventures and prefer to leave the organising to the experts.
Being immersed in a totally new culture can be a daunting experience but it can also be one of the most rewarding times of your life. A recent survey revealed that 87% of respondents believe travel has enhanced their lives and changed their view of the world and their place in it.
Conducted by Abercrombie & Kent, a tour company offering tailor-made and luxury holidays, the survey found overall that travellers are looking for more authentic, sustainable and adventurous experiences and this motivation drives their decisions when choosing who to travel with.
Whether you’re an independent traveller looking for the ultimate adventure, a couple on their latest jaunt or a group of friends ready for a good time, sometimes it’s just easier to leave the planning in the safe hands of a tour company.
The findings of the survey are also consistent with a shift to small group tours, with respondents as a whole expecting roughly half (49%) of their future travel to be in groups.
77% were either likely or very likely to travel on a small group tour in the future because economies of scale provide better insider access and open doors to new experiences difficult to access as an independent traveller. 83% of those surveyed agree authentic travel experiences and encounters are as important as premium accommodation.
Respondents also felt that small group tours give them the confidence to travel to countries they don’t know much about and that it provides an opportunity to meet interesting people.
Group tours have often been popular with Aussies looking for a hands-off experience so they can fully enjoy their vacation and 81% agreed luxury travel is as much about adventure as about service and comfort.
79% of those surveyed agree travel makes the world a better place and 49% believe travel comes with a philanthropic responsibility with only 8% disagreeing.
