How can you tell if a sofa is Australian made?

Looking for the Australian Made triangle is the first and easiest way to tell if a product is made in Australia. Many companies that have signed up for the licence use it on their websites. Bear in mind that the licence may only apply to specific products, as many brands that make Australian made products also stock imported goods or they'll outsource some products to be made overseas.

Being a paid licence, not everyone that makes sofas in Australia will display this symbol. If you don't see it, look out for anything regarding the "product origin" or the "place of manufacture" and make sure it says Australia.

If in doubt, contact the seller for details. Live chat makes this super easy and quick to do.

Why buy Australian made sofas?

Supporting Aussie made sofas means you're supporting local designers and builders, which not only keeps up the employment rate but is good for the economy in general.

Australian made sofas often use local timbers, which means a lower carbon output from having to transport materials. It's also easier to call the manufacturer up if there are any manufacturing faults that need fixing.

Are Australian made sofas more expensive?

You'll notice that generally, most sofas sold in furniture stores are imported. This is because the cost of labour and materials is cheaper internationally, and therefore the cost to you, the buyer, is overall cheaper than if you had purchased something made in Australia.

So why buy Australian made furniture? If you're getting a custom-made sofa, this could save you a heap in waiting and shipping times. Buying local allows you to see the final product and inspect it for faults, which can then be amended faster. Lastly, you've got the added assurance that your sofa was made on fair wages.
