How can you tell if something is Australian made?

If you can physically see the item, whether in-store or through online images, look for the "Made in" line to tell you exactly where it was made. You can also look out for the official Australian Made triangle logo. Otherwise some brands may also use a simple picture of Australia to state that it was made here.

When in doubt, look to the brand's website in its "About" section for details of its process or contact it directly. Just know that because a product is made in Australia, doesn't necessarily mean it uses Australian materials. It simply means it was assembled here. Just food for thought.

Why buy Australian made gifts?

There's something super special about flipping over a gift and noticing that it was made by your fellow battler. Australian made gifts fuel our economy by putting money back into our hip pockets. It also helps our employment rate.

Then there's the environmental side of things. Many Australian made gifts use Australian materials and produce which means less carbon was used in transportation compared to shipping materials from overseas. Just be mindful of how these materials were obtained to ensure that they're sustainable for our environment.

Are Australian made gifts more expensive?

They don't have to be. Gifts come in all shapes, sizes and prices and by buying locally you can still snap up a bargain on quality items compared to importing a similar item from overseas.

Simply keep an open mind regarding what you buy and shop around for the best price.

If you find they are more expensive, keep in mind that the quality of the item may be better than its international counterpart. For example, a lot of beauty brands are vegan, organic and cruelty-free which can justify their price. Likewise, prints and linens might feature unique artworks with high quality materials that make them worth splurging on for your loved one.
