Auditions open for The Block 2018
Want a chance to renovate the Gatwick Hotel? Here's how to apply.
We're only a couple of weeks in to the 2017 season of The Block, but Channel Nine is already seeking applicants for the 2018 season.
If you're keen to be one of those teams, audition applications are now being accepted online. Shooting is taking place earlier this time around: you have to be available between mid-January until April. (With those dates, it's possible Nine might try for a double-Block year with a second broadcast season in October, something we haven't seen since 2014.)
Other qualifications? You must be between 18 and 65, "energetic and with a sense of humour". Previous renovation experience is helpful, but not essential. The producers favour "long-term couples, family teams and enduring friendships", so don't try applying with your latest Tinder hookup. You can only apply online, and you'll need to supply both photos and video.
According to the audition announcement, "first round couples will be reduced to final participants in the first week of filming". Given the potential for a larger number of contestants this time around, we wouldn't be surprised if an "intruder" couple from that eliminated group gets to return later in the season.
If you've been rejected before, don't lose heart. Executive producer Julian Cress says that often teams apply multiple times before making it. "So many couples have tried a number of times before they made it," he told the Herald Sun.
If you make it into the final 30, you'll be flown to Melbourne for a second audition, which involves being given a list of 200 items and 30 minutes to pick which ones you'd use in a room. In the meantime, make sure you're up to speed on what's required by checking out our recaps of every episode.
