ASOS’ editor explains how to add flirty flair to your Spring Racing wardrobe

Spring racing carnival is well and truly upon us. To help get our track style seriously sorted fashion’s favourite BFF, ASOS, is here to get the wheels in motion for what to wear come race-day.

Scrap tradition and start thinking outside the box with unexpected shoes and accessories that will add an element of fun to your race-day outfit. We can’t get enough of matte sequins (try a cute clutch) or low-heeled sandals complete with pom poms and embellishment. Maybe they aren’t what you’d typically see trackside but with a little added charm completing your look, you’ll be bringing your A-game to the friendship circle and Fashions on the Field.

5 things to take note of:

ASOS knows a thing or two about style, the brand is a trendsetter we look to on the reg for all sorts of fashion advice. We chit-chatted with ASOS Australia’s editor Jerico Mandybur to get her thoughts on how we can spice things up this year. Consider your race-day attire sorted.

1. The trends to go after this season...

JM: “Glam 70s details, pastels, retro block heels, off the shoulder and structured shapes, slip dresses and modern, unexpected hair pieces.”

2. Spring racing carnival do’s and don’ts

JM: “Do be true to your personal style. Don’t dress to blend in. Do dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Don’t wear heels if you know they’ll be unbearably painful and end of in your hands. Do have fun! Don’t be afraid to break the dress code rules (yolo!).”

3. The key to finding the perfect shoes…

JM: “If you can’t imagine yourself standing in them for four hours or more, don’t wear them. Go for an on-trend, more realistic option that you’ll wear again and again this spring/summer.”

4. An alternative to the fascinator

JM: “Have fun with it! Try a sleek silver or gold headband, a festival-style head chain, some embellished flower clips or make like Saint Laurent’s SS15 girls and wear a grunge-inspired tiara.”

5. Midriff or no midriff?

JM: “Whatever floats your boat! There’s no good reason why not to. If it feels good, do it.”
