Ardor is a blockchain designed specifically for business applications. Its defining feature is a uniquely flexible multiple blockchain system consisting of parent and child chains. It lets any business create and program its own blockchain solutions with a range of different functions.
Ardor’s ecosystem had 3 blockchains – Ardor, Ignis and Nxt, which has since split from the project.
Ardor and Ignis are designed to work in tandem to allow businesses to create their own customisable blockchain solutions. An organisation can create an Ardor child blockchain that comes pre-loaded with a range of features, which can be disabled as needed. It can also be easily added to through Java programming, letting developers customise the blockchain as desired.
Each child blockchain can create and use its own tokens. These might be kept inside that child blockchain for internal use only, such as if a company wants to create an employee rewards systems for internal use. It can also be pegged to fiat currencies or other tokens to give them a comparable value.
Both ARDR and IGNIS tokens are required to participate on the Ardor network. IGNIS tokens must be used as an entry-point for the Ignis child chain while ARDR tokens are used for staking, security and transactions on the protocol.
