The world of technology is a fast moving place; so fast in fact we’re already talking about the Apple Watch 2 before the first one is even out. There is method to our madness, however. Modern technology is an iterative industry where newborn devices quickly become parents and grandparents as new units are released. Apple is not immune to this phenomenon and a look back into its history can tell us how quickly the company is willing to take on consumer feedback, refine its technology and launch back into the market with a new generation of its device.

Apple Watch 2 Release Date

It’s also worth noting that Apple has updated its operating system – which is referred to as iOS – every year since 2008. This has become a critical part of Apple’s technology and its major way of evolving the user experience in-between hardware releases, often resulting in a massive impact on the way a device functions. While they originally released mid-year, the last few updates have seen a trend emerge:

  • iOS 6 – Released Wednesday, September 19, 2012
  • iOS 7 – Released Wednesday, September 18, 2013
  • iOS 8 – Released Wednesday, September 17, 2014

This makes a date of Wednesday, September 16, a likely suspect for the inevitable iOS 9.

With this data in mind, it’s a fair bet that Apple will return to the market with a second generation of its Watch early in 2016 – in fact, we’re betting on March 18 - but also that we can expect a range of new features to become available in mid-September this year. So if you’re not sold on the device, keep a close eye on the general consensus of users and feedback from reviewers for an indication of how the technology may evolve over the year.
