Apple TV adds 7Plus app
The fourth generation Apple TV now supports Channel 7’s 7Plus streaming service.
Channel 7’s streaming service 7Plus joins SBS On Demand and Tenplay in offering dedicated apps for the fourth-generation Apple TV.
Channel 7 is the second broadcaster to launch a fourth generation specific app after SBS launched its On Demand app last week. Channel Ten’s Tenplay service is also available as an Apple TV app, but it’s a port of the older third generation code, so the interface doesn't match the fourth generation design style, which radically changed the basic Apple TV interface. That means it works OK, but will feel a bit strange compared to other apps on the Apple TV box.
The Apple TV doesn't have app support for every Australian free-to-air channel yet. If your tastes run more towards ABC’s iView or Channel 9’s 9Jumpin content, you’ll have to make do with using the existing iOS apps on your iPhone or iPad and streaming them to the Apple TV via Airplay instead. That's also the case if you've got an older generation Apple TV for most of the free-to-air catch up TV services.
