Everything from Apple’s iPhone 7 event: iPhone 7, Apple Watch S2 and Mario

Alex Kidman 30 August 2016 NEWS

Apple's September event kicked off with a surprise appearance by Mario and was followed up by an Apple Watch S2 and iPhone 7 reveal.

From iPhone 7, to Apple Watch S2 to Mario and Miyamoto, here's everything from Apple's iPhone 7 event in Cupertino.

Apple iPhone Event

It’s been something of an open secret that Apple will launch its next generation iPhone, generally expected to be the iPhone 7, some time in September. The Cupertino company has formalised those plans, announcing a keynote presentation to be held on 7 September at 10am in the US. As well as inviting certain members of the media, it will also live stream the event through its event portal and via Apple TV on the day.

In terms of Australian timing, that means that the announcement keynote will actually kick off on 8 September at 3am. Apple is expected to follow in the design footsteps of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with two models of iPhone announced at the event, possibly doing away with the standard headphone socket in favour of lightning-port-only audio connectivity along the way.

Apple typically doesn’t wait around too long between announcing a new iPhone model and making it generally available in order to maximise the hype around a new launch. Australia is rather unique in this respect because due to the international dateline it’s effectively the "first" market in which iPhones officially go on sale. Going by past performance, it’s likely that Apple will open pre-orders late on Friday 9 September with actual availability on either 16 or 23 of September.
