Black Friday 2016: The best Apple store deals

Alex Kidman 25 November 2016 NEWS

Buy a MacBook, score up to $200 in sweet Apple gift cards.

Apple’s entry into this year’s Black Friday sales doesn't involve dropping prices on its iPhone, MacBook or Apple TV lines. Frankly, price cuts aren’t the kind of thing that Apple tends to resort to, because they really fit its premium brand image.

That doesn’t mean Apple can’t offer what amounts to a sideways discount, however. Its 2016 Black Friday deal (or, in Apple’s parlance, "one day shopping event") involves free gift cards with the purchase of a wide variety of Apple hardware.

Specifically, Apple will give you a $35 Apple Gift Card when you purchase an Apple TV, iPhone SE or selected Apple Watch models today. If you’re more keen on an iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, those will score you a $70 gift card for today only. If your iPad ambitions are more professional, iPad Pro buyers get a $140 gift card with their purchases. Finally in the Mac space, buyers of iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air, and select MacBook Pro models walk away with a very tasty $200 Apple gift card.

It’s not quite the same thing as a direct discount, but realistically if you’re buying Apple gear in the first place you’re buying into a complete ecosystem, and as such you’re likely to want or need to buy more gear to go with your new Apple equipment. It’s also worth noting that these are Apple Store gift cards, not iTunes ones, so they’re for shopping online or at Apple’s retail stores, not buying music, movies or apps through iTunes.
