Review of the American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas Bundle

This card is linked with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, so you will earn Qantas Points as you spend. If you apply by 11 June 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days of approval with your Visa, you’ll get 60,000 bonus points. If you meet the same spend requirement with your American Express, you’ll score another 15,000 bonus points. That’s a total of 75,000 bonus Qantas Points! These rewards come at the cost of a combined $249 p.a. annual fee ($150 for the Visa, $49 for the Amex and a $50 Qantas fee).

When you apply for the Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas bundle, you’ll get a Visa card as well as an American Express. You cannot apply for the American Express card on its own, you can only apply for the American Express card if you already have (or are applying for) the Visa. Although you apply for the Amex card through Westpac, the card is issued and serviced by American Express.

  • Bonus points. You can earn a total of 75,000 bonus Qantas Points with this card. When you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days of approval with your Visa, you’ll get 60,000 bonus points. If you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days of approval with your Amex, you’ll earn another 15,000 bonus Qantas Points. To give you an example, that’s enough points to fly in Economy from Sydney to Paris (60,000 points) or in Business Class from Sydney to Singapore (60,000 points).
  • Standard earn rates. When you spend with the Visa, you’ll earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent. On the American Express, you’ll earn 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on purchases in a foreign currency, 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent in Australia as well as 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on government transactions (such as ATO bills). How to apply for the American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas Bundle

If you’re already an existing Westpac Altitude Platinum - Qantas card customer, you can apply for this card if you’ve been invited to via Online Banking, email or post. If you were invited, you should’ve received a promotional code which you can use to apply. If you don’t already have the card, you can only apply for the American Express card if you also apply for the Visa card.


The American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas bundle offers competitive earn rates and complimentary extras. But as it’s not the only rewards card on the market, it’s best to compare a few options before you apply.

Although this card is bundled with the two platinum products together, you can apply for the Westpac Altitude Black Qantas card and the American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Qantas card bundled together or vice versa depending on the perks you want from your card.
