Unlike the previous Westpac Altitude cards that came with both an Amex and a Visa or Mastercard, the American Express Westpac Altitude Black Qantas is a separate credit card issued directly by American Express. This means the account is managed directly through Amex’s Internet banking service, instead of Westpac’s. It also has a separate credit limit, statement and annual fee.

It offers a competitive tiered earn rate structure, with 2 Qantas Points per $1 on eligible foreign currency spending, 1.25 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases in Australia and 0.5 points per $1 for spending with government bodies in Australia (such as the ATO). It also offers complimentary insurance, benefits through Amex Offers and up to 45 days interest-free on purchases.
