A free event for businesses looking to sell on Amazon.

Amazon will be hosting a free half-day event in Sydney aimed at providing practical guidance for Australian businesses looking to sell on Amazon Marketplace.

The online retail giant's launch in Australia was announced in April of this year and is leading with its Marketplace offering, which allows businesses to sell through the Amazon platform. There are already 500 Australian businesses registered to sell their products when the Marketplace goes live.

The Marketplace Seller Summit, which will be run in partnership with the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and the SME Association of Australia (SMEA), will feature keynotes from Amazon representatives, experts and entrepreneurs.

Mark Flack, Board Member of the SMEA, said they are proud to partner with Amazon for the Summit.

"The reality is that there’s a lot of education that needs to happen amongst the small business community when it comes to being digitally savvy and using the right tools to take their business to the next level," he said.

"The SMEA is committed to ensuring that our own community has all the information needed to make the most of the digital opportunity.”

There has been a mixed reaction to Amazon's arrival in Australia, with a MYOB survey finding 27% of Australian SMEs are worried about Amazon's arrival. However, the same survey found over half (57%) perceive that Amazon's arrival will force businesses to innovate.

Loren Padelford, the Global GM of Shopify Plus, thinks that Australian businesses could use Amazon as an opportunity for success.

"We have Amazon as a channel in other countries, and some brands leverage that to a huge success. They let Amazon do their marketing for them," he said.

Adam Mills, CTO and Founder of Australian business KoalaSafe, whose largest channel is Amazon marketplace, has seen incremental year-on-year growth in sales.

“Amazon launching in Australia marks an exciting time for Australian entrepreneurs,” he said. “For those who are selling physical products, Amazon provides a great opportunity to get these products in front of customers and we encourage businesses to take full advantage.”

Businesses attending the summit will be able to hear from Mills along with Amazon Australia country manager, Rocco Braeuniger, and head of Amazon Marketplace in Australia, Fabio Bertola.
