Amazon Australia has launched with some killer deals on video games

Highlights include the best price on a Nintendo Switch system in Australia.

After missing its expected launch on the eve of Black Friday, online shopping juggernaut Amazon has finally gone live here in Australia with its full range of retail products, and it's already clear that other Aussie retailers are going to have to step up their game if they hope to compete.

In the video game space, Amazon is offering some smashing deals on both consoles and games, with new releases like FIFA 18 and Star Wars Battlefront II a mere $39 on both PS4 and Xbox One, while Assassin's Creed Origins and Call of Duty: WWII are only $49 each on both systems.

If you've been waiting to pick up a Nintendo Switch, Amazon has you covered here, too. Both the grey and neon console variants can be had for $399, a full $50 cheaper than at other local retailers.

The only drawback to these killer deals is the fact that Amazon isn't yet offering its Prime membership service, which gets you free shipping along with other benefits. Nevertheless, the delivery costs are on par with most other online retailers and are significantly better than when ordering from the American Amazon. You also get free delivery on any orders over $49, which is much appreciated.

There'll undoubtedly be plenty of even better deals in the months to come, as Amazon Australia starts rolling out the lightning deals and price-matching that its US counterpart is known for. In the meantime, though, you can check out some of our top picks below:
