Amazon is taking the world by storm and soon you will be able to buy everything from Amazon here in Australia. Buying books online is so easy and convenient, here we tell you everything you need to know about buying books through Amazon.
We’re all excited about Amazon’s announcement that it will launch in Australia. It will mean an end to having to import our Amazon purchases from the US, which will make things substantially cheaper and far more convenient.
But how will it work? How will these changes affect us when buying books? How quickly can I get the next must-read novel? These are just some of the questions Amazon’s Australian launch unveiling has left us with.
We’re on hand to address those burning questions that remain unanswered.
What are Amazon eBooks?
Amazon eBooks are electronic versions of printed books that can be read on a computer, tablet or Kindle.
Does Amazon Australia only sell books?
Currently yes, Amazon Australia only sells digital products like Amazon Kindle eBooks and Audible books. But when the impending launch lands it is expected that we will be able to purchase anything stocked by the Amazon Warehouse. And, the possibility of what might be on offer in the future is almost limitless!
Why does Amazon Australia only sell books?
Currently Amazon does not have warehouses and staff centres in Australia. E-books and audiobooks can be sold with very little local labour, and thus the sale of these within Australia is completely manageable. However, all is about to change as Amazon hunts down a location suitable to be their Australian base.
Does Amazon ship books to Australia?
Currently, Aussies wanting to purchase a physical book would have to do so via Amazon US or Amazon UK, and obviously the shipping fees aren’t always enticing! However, once Amazon Australia launches, we’ll be able to purchase those page-turners in hardback or paperback format for a much more inviting price.
Does Amazon Australia sell paperbacks?
At present, no. However, in the not-too-distant future it’s expected that we will be able to purchase our paperbacks from Amazon Australia.
Will Amazon Australia sell second-hand books?
Based on Amazon in other countries, it seems highly unlikely that Amazon Australia would sell second-hand books. That’s not to say that it won’t allow Australian established, reliable second-hand book merchants to retail through Amazon.
What kind of books does Amazon Australia sell?
At the moment, the Amazon Australia book genres on offer can be broken down into romance; mystery, thriller and suspense; science fiction and fantasy, and literature and fiction. These are available in both eBook and Audible formats.
What kind of books are popular on Amazon in the US and UK?
UK bestsellers include cookbooks, crime thrillers and romance literature, as well as George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones.
US bestsellers include crime thrillers and true crime.
Does Amazon Australia sell audio books?
It does indeed! Audible is Amazon’s version of audiobooks and is available now through Amazon Australia.
Can you get Amazon books for iPad?
Yes! The Kindle app is available for your iPad and gives you access to your entire Amazon Kindle library, saving you the trouble of carrying two devices. You can use the Kindle app to read any of your previous purchases, or to make new Kindle purchases in Safari through the Amazon store. They will then be delivered straight to the app on your iPad.
Can I get a gift voucher for Amazon Australia books?
No. Gift vouchers are not currently available to purchase through Amazon Australia. However, we do expect this to change following the launch.
