amaysim now has a 14GB $50 plan
Get up to 14GB of data to use on amaysim's new SIM-only plans.
amaysim has long sold itself as a value-centric telco for those who only want a SIM to throw into an existing handset. The company has just announced an increase in the amount of data available across its 28-day plans. The bad news is that the new data increases are accompanied by a very tiny increase in price. All plans are going up by precisely 10 cents to round the price up to the nearest dollar. However, some features previously included in Plus plans (such as international calls) are now in the more basic plans, so some customers could score a cheaper deal.
Here's the rundown on the new plans:
Here's how the new and old plans compare:
amaysim SIM-only Mobile Plans | Previous Monthly Cost | Previous Monthly Data | New Monthly Data |
---|---|---|---|
Unlimited $25 | $24.90 | 1.5GB | 2GB |
Unlimited $30 | $29.90 | 3GB | 5GB |
Unlimited $40 | $39.90 | 7GB | 10GB |
Unlimited $50 | $49.90 | 9GB | 14GB |
A 10-cent price jump in return for up to 5GB of more data isn't a bad deal by any estimation. All of amaysim's SIM-only plans in this space operate on 28-day renewal terms and run on the Optus 4G network.
All plans offer unlimited standard national calls and texts as well as unlimited calls to 10 selected countries. The $40 and $50 tiers give you 300 calling minutes to an additional 22 international locations.
What happens if I'm already on a plan?
You can switch to a different deal if it offers better value, but you'll have to initiate the process yourself - it won't happen automatically. "Existing amaysim customers can remain on their existing plan without any change or should customers wish to take advantage of the increased data allowances, they are free to move to the plan of their choice, following amaysim’s no lock-in contract policy," a spokesperson told finder. You can change plans using the online account management system; the new plan will commence immediately, so you might want to time it for close to when your current deal expires.
It's definitely worth the switch for some customers. For instance, if you're on the $44.90 Ultimate 7GB Plus plan, the $40 plan now offers better value and includes more data (10GB in this instance).
