A mask that will help you say goodbye to dull and rough skin.
Why we love this product
You've probably heard of Alpha H and the brand's Liquid Gold serum. Liquid Gold is an award-winning product that can be found in the beauty cupboards of models, dermatologists and beauty editors everywhere. It's that good.
But a slightly more under-the-radar product that I think is just as good is the brand's Liquid Gold Ultimate Perfecting Mask. It's not your average moisture or clay mask, instead this product works in a similar way to the Liquid Gold serum, utilising alpha hydroxy acids to exfoliate and refine your complexion.
The quick verdict
Why is it good? It exfoliates, renews and nourishes all skin types.
How much is it? $75
It's impossible to talk about an Alpha H product without delving into a little bit of the science behind the formulation – well, at the very least, it's impossible for me. While some of the effects of this product are instant , many of them are long-term. And understanding the science shows you how these are so beneficial in the long run to keeping your skin healthy and young.
This mask's key ingredients are lipids and a 20% combination Hydroxy acid (CHA) blend. Lipids are the foundation of nourished and healthy skin. They're the essential fats that seal the goodness in your skin. Without them, all the water, anti-oxidants and natural goodness in your skin can leak out. Lipids help protect and nourish. The CHA blend includes glycolic, lactic and ferulic acids which work together to breakdown the glue in your skin that holds on to dead skin cells allowing for a thorough exfoliation – no scrubs necessary. They also help your skin let go of any matter or cells in your pores which minimises congestion. But these acids go further. They speed up your skin's ability to make new skin, they stimulate collagen production, boost hydration and help to soften pigmentation.
Think of this product as an at-home "mini-peel" that over time can totally refresh and renew your complexion. And it's great for a range of skin conditions. Hormonal skin. Check. Lines or wrinkles. Yep. Rough or dry skin? It can fix that too.
I'm someone with oily and often very congested skin and I turn to this mask weekly for help. After a long day in the office air conditioning or a week of event and TV makeup, this mask is a real skin saviour. After just 10 minutes my skin is visibly brighter and cleaner. The bumps and blackheads in my skin are reduced (although not gone entirely) and the texture of my face is so much smoother. I've found that it's also helped reduce the appearance of the occasional cystic spot.

Although the original Liquid Gold serum is great, I prefer this mask. And that is, very simply, because it is a mask. While the two products have similar skin brightening and peeling effects, the Ultimate Perfecting Mask has the added benefit of the lipids and fats like mango seed butter, grape seed oil and jojoba seed oil. So, you still get a certain level of added moisture and hydration as you let it all soak into your skin.
And at the end of your mask, you can wash the product off to reveal prepped and primed skin. So you can even use it at the beginning of a makeup application if you should so choose. Whereas the Liquid Gold serum is designed to be applied and sit on your face; it's not a wash off product.
If you've got dull, dry, wrinkled or congested skin, you should pick up a tub of the Alpha H Liquid Gold Ultimate Perfecting Mask stat.
It's not cheap but I personally don't think $75 is too bad for a mask. The tub is 50mL so it lasts for a while. To me $75 is very reasonable for the formulation, quantity of product and how long it lasts.
