ALDI Mobile is set to increase the data quotas on its Value Packs while simultaneously dropping its higher data charging system.

From 16 December, ALDImobile’s value packs will add a little more data or a little more calling quota for selected recharge ranges on its Value Pack prepaid SIMs. There’s no change to the entry level $15 S plan, but every other Value Pack adds data and calling inclusions:

While data limits are heading north, the way that ALDI Mobile counts data is set to travel south. Currently ALDI Mobile is one of the very few providers that counts data in 25KB blocks, but from 16 December, that will switch to per-KB charging.

Larger data blocks mean that you burn through your allotted mobile quota much more quickly, as we explain here. The data charging change will apply to both Value Pack and PAYG offerings.

ALDI Mobile competes against rival supermarket Woolworths in the pre-paid space. Woolworths has recently made changes to its plan inclusions, as well as adding its first contract mobile, but both providers operate on Telstra’s wholesale network, which uses a slightly smaller 3G coverage footprint than the full Telstra network. ALDI Mobile's shift to per-KB charging leaves Woolworths Pre-paid all by itself in the 25KB-charging space.

Currently, this is how the two supermarket giants compare:
