Aldi’s $89 8L Ambiano Air Fryer: How does it compare to Australia’s best?
As part of Aldi's Saturday 7 May 2021 Special Buys, the supermarket chain is featuring the 8L Ambiano Air Fryer. The Ambiano Air Fryer range isn't a new item for Aldi and we've seen it appear no less than five times in the last two years as a Special Buy appliance. Where previous models have been smaller (2.5L and 3L) and bigger (a 16L model), this weekend shoppers can opt for the family-friendly 8L model.
So, how does the Aldi 8L Ambiano Air Fryer compare with the best air fryers in Australia. For the full run-down, you can read our review of the Aldi Air Fryer. But below, we'll give you a quick overview of how it stacks up against the market.
How does the Aldi Ambiano Air Fryer's features compare?
If you're looking to compare air fryers solely on price, then the 8L Aldi Ambiano is hard to beat. At $89.99, it's got just about every major player covered. The question, of course, becomes whether or not the more expensive options offer substantially more features and a better cooking experience?
Below you will find the Aldi Ambiano Air Fryer's features compared against other options in the market. This includes the air fryers that made our list for the best air fryers in Australia.
|Air fryer||Capacity||Cooking cptions||Max temp||Timer (min)||Size (mm)||Finder Award||Price|
|Aldi Ambiano Air Fryer||8L||7 presets||200°C||30||350 x 470 x 390||N/A||$89.99|
|Anko 3.2 Litre Air Fryer Roaster||3.2L||7 presets||200°C||30||302 x 354 x 358||Best budget air fryer||$96|
|Healthy Choice 12L Digital Air Fryer||12L||10 presets||200°C||60||422 x 412 x 374||Best large air fryer||$199.99|
|Tefal Easy Fry Classic Air Fryer||4.2L||4 cooking types||200°C||60||326 x 394 x 326||Best compact air fryer||$179|
|Philips Air Fryer Premium XXL||7.3L||5 presets||200°C||60||398 x 398 x 334||Best premium air fryer||$599|
|Nutri Ninja Foodi Multi Cooker||4L||9 cooking types||260°C||60||360 x 320 x 430||Best multifunction air fryer||$349|
|Bellini BAF020||11L||8 presets and 3 cooking functions||200°C||60||TBC||N/A||$149|
Ultimately it compares very favourably. Especially when you look at the capacity you're getting at such a low price without losing key features like a timer, presets and a 200°C max temperature. Elsewhere you'll find overheat protection and non-stick pans, as well as most of the base features you find in most air fryers.
Who should buy it?
We've gone hands-on with Aldi's new air fryer for 2021 and as detailed in our review, overall it's impressive for the price. It's not without its foibles. The basket can be slid out of the appliance easily enough, but it can be a pain to get back into place. The 30-minute timer is a bit restrictive, too. And there are a couple of high-end features that would be nice, even if they are ultimately luxuries.
There's also the unknown question of how long it will last? Previous models have been hit and miss if you go by user reviews, but there's nothing we've seen in its performance thus far to suggest there is anything to worry about. At this price, reliability is a risk you take and you can opt for more well-known brands.
With its 8L capacity, it can easily hold a BBQ chicken with vegetables, a large pie or quiche or tons of chips. In short, plenty for a family. As a result, it feels like good bang for buck to us.
