Air New Zealand named the top airline of 2020
After narrowly missing out on the top spot last year, Air New Zealand takes the crown for 2020 Airline of the Year by AirlineRatings.com for a record sixth year. To further highlight its excellence in the air, Air New Zealand took out Best Premium Economy as well.
Judged by a panel of 7 expert judges with over 200 years of aviation experience between them, the list is comprised of a bespoke 7-star rating system. Factors such as safety, customer reviews, product offerings, environmental leadership, fleet age and profitability are all taken into account.
Last year's winner, Singapore Airlines got pushed to second place in its very own hub at the awards ceremony in Singapore recently. It did manage to take out the prestigious First Class award for its impressive Suites product.
Homegrown carrier, Qantas made it to fourth place this year and also managed to win Best Domestic Airline Service and Best Lounges while Qatar Airways picked up Best Catering and Best Business Class for the second year in a row.
AirlineRatings.com editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas says Air New Zealand was a clear winner in virtually every category.
"Air New Zealand is a clear industry leader which is remarkable when it is up against much larger global carriers. The airline is committed to excellence in all areas of its business with its employees across the globe consistently delivering exceptional customer service," said Thomas.
Other local airlines that grabbed some top mentions include AirAsia for Best Low-Cost Airline in Asia/Pacific, Cathay Pacific Airways for Excellence in Long Haul travel and Cebu Pacific for the Most Improved Airline.
For 2020, Airlineratings.com expanded the Top 10 to a Top 20 list to better recognise the vast number of outstanding airlines available to passengers. Take a look at all the award winners below.
