Got any Nike Air Jordans sitting in your wardrobe unused? Maybe even a pair in a box that you had forgotten about, hidden way up the back under piles of jumpers that no longer fit? Well, they could be worth a bit.

Sneakers are becoming big business for investors, collectors and those looking for new ways to make a buck. Similar, in some ways, to cryptocurrency, there's a busy market of sellers and buyers exchanging sneakers at stunning rates. And there are serious profits to be made – assuming you have a genuine pair of sought-after kicks that are unused or close to.

Especially if said pair are the beloved Air Jordans from Nike.

But what are the best Air Jordan sneakers for resale? Which are proving to be the most popular? Where can you find the biggest profits? We've done a huge analysis of Air Jordan sneaker sales from October 2020 to October 2021 to try and find answers to these questions.

How did we acquire the data?

We collated our data and information from several sites focused on aftermarket sneaker sales, sneaker news and sneaker retail. We're talking a 1GB Excel file here! Some of the notable sites we used included StockX, GOAT, Sneakernews, Nike, eBay, Hypebeast and Sneakerfiles.

There's a seemingly endless number of sneakers in the market, but we've focused on the famous Air Jordan brand in this study.

Note: All figures in this study are in Australian dollars.

Top 20 most profitable Air Jordan sneakers of 2021

In this study, we looked at the average price of sale for second-hand (or aftermarket) Air Jordans across the entire range. So that's every size, every variant (men, woman, grade school, preschool, toddler and more) and every colour. We then subtracted from that the original retail price of the shoe. This gave us a figure which shows the shoes that have been the most profitable for their original owners.

I've also indicated which sizes sell for the highest amounts. There can be quite a range in prices between the bestselling shoe size and the lowest show size for any given sneaker.

Top 20 most volatile Air Jordan sneakers of 2021

In this study, we wanted to produce a figure that was more relevant to investors or those looking to use the second-hand sneaker market as a platform for making money. This study shows the volatility of a shoe's price over the last 12 months. We calculated this by looking at the difference between the highest sale price for the shoe and the lowest.

The volatility percentage looks to show the range above and below the average sale price the shoe has sold for. So, if a Nike Air Jordan sneaker had an average sale price of $1,000, but had sold for as high as $1,500 and as low as $500, then its volatility percentage would be 150%.

Volatility is handy in that it gives an indication of which Air Jordan sneakers are most likely to be an opportunity for someone to find a shoe at a low price and sell it for high price. The higher the percentage, the bigger the potential margin you can make.
