At a time when fellow expansion club Greater Western Sydney is looking to improve on a first grand final appearance, Gold Coast are still struggling to reach any semblance of competitiveness in the AFL.
Last season the Suns limped to just three wins to finish bottom of the table. Surprisingly, it was only the second wooden spoon in their history. The other occurred in 2011 when they finished last in a 17-team competition in their first season.
But with the top two picks in last year's AFL draft on board – 18-year-old duo and good mates Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson – there is again some encouragement for the future.
Once again this season, free-to-air television and Foxtel have the rights to games. Channel 7, Kayo Sports, Foxtel iQ, Foxtel Now and the AFL Live Pass are your options. We have put together a complete AFL viewing guide for you which has all the details.
Kayo and Foxtel have every game live and ad-free, while Channel 7 shows select games depending on the region. All Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions matches are on the main channel or 7mate in Queensland.
Kayo starts from $25/month for use on 2 devices. For $10 more per month you get a third screen. On top of all the AFL action, you get access to more than 50 sports. Kayo also has a 14-day free trial for new users.
It also comes with a number of special features. SplitView, No Spoilers and Interactive Stats are just some of the options.
Another viewing option is AFL Live Pass, an app which is free to Telstra customers. You can also buy a subscription from the App Store or Google Play. Live streaming is limited to a seven-inch display size.
If you are out of Australia for business or pleasure, you don't need to miss out on AFL action. With the Watch AFL app, you can stream matches with an Internet connection. You can see a guide here on how to stream the 2020 AFL season from overseas.
If you're out of the country, streaming Aussie Rules football can be a bit of a pain. For those travelling the globe, there's Watch AFL.View details
The Suns open the season at their Metricon Stadium home against Port Adelaide at 7:25pm AEDT on Saturday 21 March. The complete AFL draw is here.
The Suns' history has been short and mostly wretched, to put it bluntly. Brief moments of optimism have generally been replaced by brutal reality checks. Gold Coast have regularly found it difficult to attract or retain talent.
In Stuart Dew, they have an astute coach who is heading into his third season. If the current crop of players can buy in and commit to the cause, success may not be too far away. But that has been the key issue in the club's nine seasons in the AFL thus far.

When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labelling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
