What is Adventure Gold?
Adventure Gold, or AGLD, is the native cryptocurrency of a non-fungible token (NFT) project known as Loot. Launched in August 2021 by Dom Hofmann, the co-founder of Vine, Loot consists of 8,000 unique NFT “Loot bags” that each contained 8 pieces of role-player game (RPG) equipment. Items held within each NFT bag are similar to those found in popular games such as World of Warcraft or Dungeons and Dragons. According to the project's website, thanks to Loot's smart contracts, each piece of equipment was randomly generated, providing each NFT holder with a completely unique list.
Visually, the NFTs are just a worded list, with stats, images and other functions purposefully omitted. It was the project's aim for those key aspects of the NFTs to be interpreted by members of the Loot community. As a result, the project has been described by many as “NFT improvisation” and has gone on to generate an entire ecosystem built around Loot NFTs and the associated RPG items. Upon launch, no one knew which piece of equipment was most rare. The rarity of each item was only established once the whole collection had been analysed by members of the community. As popularity increased, members of the community then went on to develop visualisation and price monitoring tools for all Loot items, and a metaverse for the project. Instead of a top-down approach where the decisions of NFT developers create value, Loot takes a bottom-up approach with the value being derived from the project and how engaged the community is.
The native cryptocurrency, AGLD, was developed as a bolt-on to the Loop project by Ethereum Developer, Will Papper. Each Loop NFT holder was airdropped 10,000 AGLD tokens upon launch. While the use of the token was left up to members of the community, it is now used as the governance token of the Loot NFT game. In addition to governance, the token could potentially be used for 'in-game credits' and to facilitate transactions within other projects that are devised atop Loot's native infrastructure.
Adventure Gold (AGLD) is the 468th largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, valued at $121,863,072. The current price of Adventure Gold is $2.4174, which is -0.102% lower than yesterday.
