Embrace Adelaide’s many experiences by getting to them easily and cheaply.
Stretching only about 3km across, Adelaide's city centre is compact and packs in attractions like Rundle Mall, the South Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of South Australia into it's borders. If you're staying central, most of the CBD's attractions should be no more than a 20-30-minute walk.
If you're hoping to go further afield, or can use a bit of assistance getting around, Adelaide offers a range of public transport options plus its serviced by cabs and ride share programs. To help get you there, we’ve detailed everything you need to know about transport in Adelaide, so you can focus on your new experiences (and not stress about how to get to them).
Adelaide public transport
Types of transport. Adelaide Metro will get you around town with trains, trams and buses. If you're hoping to go out of the CBD to Glenelg, you can hop on a tram from the city centre. While wine regions are close by, touring the vineyards by public transport may be difficult, but not impossible. Public buses do service Adelaide Hills, but stops will be intermittent.
Paying for transport. For $26, the metroCARD Visitor Pass is loaded with three days of travel with the option to top up if you’re staying longer. You can purchase single- or day-trip tickets on buses, trams and trains. You can buy MetroCARDs from info centres, metroCARD agents or ticket vending and recharge machines. A day-trip ticket costs $10 while a single trip is $3.40 during non-peak hours.
Best apps for getting around. For real-time transit information, to see transport options and for information on when to leave your destination to catch your transit option, download the metroMATE app.
Taxis and Uber
Taxi. You can book a taxi in advance by phone, hail one from the street or find one at taxi ranks around the city.
Uber. Uber is available, but you can only use UberBLACK from the Adelaide Airport. Fares are between $30 and $38 to the CBD.
