The only guide you’ll need to create the perfect Adelaide itinerary

Weekend, short and driving itineraries through Adelaide

Adelaide is the underrated capital of South Australia. Small enough to walk, it’s the kind of city you can dedicate a weekend to without feeling guilty about having missed out on any of the sights. That’s not to say it doesn’t offer up enough opportunities for a longer journey.

With the Great Ocean Road within reach as well, Adelaide is an ideal starting point for a road trip.

Are the cogs moving yet? Good. Let’s keep them going with a few choice Adelaide itineraries!

Weekend Adelaide itinerary

Adelaide offers more than just the city sights for a weekend trip, though there is that. Here are a few itineraries to fill your weekend with.

City itinerary

Day one: Spend the first day familiarising yourself with the city and seeing its major highlights by foot, tram or day tour. These include the Adelaide Botanic Garden, Adelaide Oval, Himeji Gardens and Adelaide Central Market.

Day two: Delve further into what the city has to offer by spending a day exploring the Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Zoo, Himeji Gardens or Adelaide Gaol.

Relaxing wine break itinerary

Day one: If you’ve already seen the city or if you’ve come intending to see something else, there’s nothing wrong with seeing Adelaide on a short day tour and spending the next day relaxing in wine country.

Day two: Drive to the Barossa Valley for some r&r and to savour the area's award wines. The Barossa is only an hour drive from Adelaide city and there are plenty of day tours available so you won't have to worry about staying under the limit while you're there!

Looking for somewhere else to be on that second day? If you're not the wine-and-dine kind, you can also visit Kangaroo Island for an adventurous day out or drive to the Great Ocean Road for a scenic escape with a dash of history.
