Sally McMullen
Hey chicks, I'm Sal.
Alex Hourigan
And I'm Al.
Sally McMullen
And this is Two Broke Chicks, the show that teaches life lessons for the gals, from the gals and today we're back for another fun episode of Add to Cart. And in today's episode we are chatting with the fabulous Tea from Smart Women Society. Let's get into it, Tea.
Tea Angelos
Let's! I'm so excited. I'm really keen for this episode.
Sally McMullen
Literally, we were just chatting off air about how this is like our favourite episode.
Alex Hourigan
Yeah.
Sally McMullen
So first up, what are the three products in your beauty bag that are absolute essentials you can't live without and why?
Tea Angelos
All right, number one goes without saying, sunscreen. I love the Mecca To Save Face Sunscreen, the SPF 50+ version. It's an awesome texture, goes on really nicely under makeup, doesn't feel sticky and I wear it every day. Someone told me that you should even wear sunscreen like when you're just in the house because you can get UV from the windows and I never knew that. So I religiously apply it every morning now. Secondly is Morphe Skin Tint. It's a really great lightweight option for every day and it blends so nicely into the skin, so flawless. Highly, highly recommend as a lightweight option. Lastly, I couldn't think of a third one so I've kind of just done it as a brand that has a few things underneath it but MCoBeauty, game changing. I love their Xtend Lash Mascara and they also have a blush and a contour dupe for Charlotte Tilbury which is amazing. And I actually saw Martha Kalifatidis from MAFS and she raves about MCoBeauty. And I saw 50% off the other day at Woollies and I got it and it's amazing. They do amazing dupes of all these high end brands and super affordable. It's like $10-$15.
Alex Hourigan
I love a dupe. Dupes are my love language.
Sally McMullen
I see them all over TikTok.
Alex Hourigan
Yeah, so next up what is the item that's in your wardrobe that is your like go-to, you can never get rid of it?
Tea Angelos
Again, not a specific item but a bit of a category. But 1,000% blazers, I think they're so timeless, they go with everything. Chuck one on over jeans, you look cool. Check one over a mini dress, you look sexy. Put one over your work pants, you're ready, like your corporate chic. And yeah, I love my collection, I've built it up over the years, I would never get rid of any of them. And honestly you don't even need to spend that much money finding good blazers. I actually got an amazing like oversized, like really cool girl, chic, grey blazer last week from an op shop and it was $10 and from the male section. So don't sleep on the men's section and it looks so cool and it's really well made.
Alex Hourigan
So good. That's such a good tip to go to shops and go to the men's blazer section for that good like oversized boxy fit.
Sally McMullen
Love that. Going to be hitting the shop after this - inspired!
Alex Hourigan
I was literally like, what are we doing after this? Want to go vintage shopping?
Sally McMullen
Literally, we just said how we need to save money.
Tea Angelos
But $10. So cheap!
Alex Hourigan
So good. I was in Vinnies the other day and found a dress that's like $350 for $25.
Tea Angelos
A girl I follow on Instagram went to Vinnies the other week and she got a Dior monogram bucket hat from Vinnies. And she was like I've just found this like find of the century and it was so cool. And it was like $50, maybe?
Sally McMullen
That's the other fun part. You never know what you'll find. But on the other end of the spectrum, what's the worst or stupidest thing you've ever bought?
Tea Angelos
In year 12, I was invited to another boy's school formal and I was really set on wearing something really different and something that you couldn't buy in stores, online shopping wasn't much of a thing back then. So I found this dress on Instagram that was really cool. And I was like, no one's ever worn something like this before, I'm going to look amazing. And I think from memory it was from an eBay store. And all the photos on the product listing were like stock images of this model like prancing around in the dress in Europe. And in my head, I was like that's the vibe I'm going for like I'm gonna look so good. So I ordered it I waited for it to arrive and it took ages and it came like two days before the actual formal. And have you seen that TikTok trend where it's like, "This is what I asked for and this is what I got"? It was literally that, it was just a sack. It was pretty much just material, the zip wasn't sewn on properly, it was so poorly made, it just had to go in the bin and honestly it's traumatised me a little bit online shopping, still.
Sally McMullen
Oh my god, we've all been there. I swear almost every time we ask that question, it's because people have bought something from like an Instagram or TikTok ad and it's gone wrong.
Tea Angelos
Like a random, dodgy store.
Sally McMullen
Yeah, exactly.
Alex Hourigan
On that note of where not to buy, what are your brands that you love to online shop with and why?
Tea Angelos
Ooh, well, I love Adore Beauty because I love the free Tim Tams.
Alex Hourigan
Ohhh, yes, yes, yes.
Tea Angelos
Always brightens my day. And I also love anywhere that's got really simple returns processes. So I love like ASOS, The Iconic, it makes it so much easier because nine times out of 10 things don't fit me so I end up sending it back. But to be honest, and we're talking about this off air just before, aside from topping up and like replacing essentials, I haven't bought too much new over the last year and in the last year I've been to 10 weddings, which is absolutely insane. And I made an effort, like a conscious effort, to not buy any new outfits for new events and instead, I've been shopping my own wardrobe and rediscovering, rewearing old pieces. And yeah, I'm proud to say I'm a serial outfit repeater. So like that scene in Lizzie McGuire, "You're an outfit repeater!". That's 100% me and I'm proud of it. I think it's good to rewear things and not just buy a dress once and then kind of shove it in the back of the wardrobe.
Sally McMullen
We need to be shopping in our wardrobes a little bit more. You can wear things again as they are or just do a little bit of styling and you can make a whole new fit.
Alex Hourigan
Or shop your friends wardrobe. Like we do that all the time. Like I know Sal's wardrobe as much as I know my own. So like when I'm thinking of a fit, I'm like, "Okay, I'll take her slip dress, my blazer, I wear my boots, I'll borrow her stockings".
Sally McMullen
Exactly.
Alex Hourigan
My bag, and my sunglasses. Done.
Sally McMullen
Yeah, and I'm more than happy to because you're getting more bang for your buck if you let other people wear it too. So solid tips all around, Tea. I love it. Last but not least, what's your number one savvy shopping tip?
Tea Angelos
I absolutely love Buy, Swap, Sell groups on Facebook. So there are so many, you can look up specific brands. There's like Zimmerman Buy, Swap, Sell, or you can join big groups like high end that have heaps of different brands. And you can find the most amazing deals on pieces in there. You can sell things that you no longer wear and accrue cost. You can find like old or sold out pieces that you missed out on. And I just love it as well, like I love the circular economy like it's really sustainable, it's good for the environment. I cannot talk highly enough of it. I found amazing designer pieces like 50% off from what they are in retail and yeah, absolutely love it.
Alex Hourigan
So good. I love Facebook Marketplace and those Buy, Sell, Swap groups. There's also ones that like aren't too high end like you can get ones that are like Princess Polly, Glassons, Tiger Mist Buy, Swap, Sell and get an absolute bargain and feel a little bit better about you know, spending money on a brand.
Sally McMullen
Yeah, exactly. But also if you are doing one that's with a higher end brand, I find that the people in those groups understand the value and like the retail price, so they're willing to pay maybe a little bit more than if you were to just sell it to, you know, anyone on eBay or,
Alex Hourigan
at a market stall.
Sally McMullen
Yeah, exactly. So, love that!
Alex Hourigan
I hate that when you're at the markets and it's like a $400 dress and someone's like, "Would you do it for $20?". And I'm like, get out!
Sally McMullen
Literally.
Tea Angelos
It makes you angry and you're like absolutely not.
Sally McMullen
Yeah.
Alex Hourigan
I will not do that!
Sally McMullen
Exactly!
Alex Hourigan
Goodbye.
