ABC iView comes to Apple TV
An official app for the ABC's popular iView streaming service is now available for the fourth generation Apple TV.
When it comes to streaming free to air applications, the ABC has long been the market leader in Australia. Its nearest competitor (in terms of offering an effective delivery experience and a wide range of content) has been SBS
One area where SBS has offered a significantly superior service to the ABC has been in having a place on the Apple TV set top box. SBS On Demand has been available for some time on both the third generation and fourth generation Apple TVs.
ABC iView, by comparison, has been conspicuous by its absence -- until now. The ABC has announced that an app for the fourth generation Apple TV is now available, bringing the entire streaming suite of programs to owners of that set top box. We reviewed the fourth generation Apple TV here, and were generally impressed, and having the extra option of being able to watch iView definitely adds to its appeal.
Note, however, that if you’re an owner of an older Apple TV model, you can't use the new app. That doesn't mean you have no options. If you have iOS devices that can run the ABC iView app you can always use Airplay to stream content through an older Apple TV model.
How can I watch SBS On Demand & ABC IView on an ordinary TV?
Hi ucampj4,
These services are only available via online streaming. Both SBS On Demand and ABC iview can be streamed on Xbox (360 and One) and PlayStation (3 and 4) or on Apple TV using Airplay.
Cheers,
Brodie
Hi.
On my Apple Tv, the iView ABC App randomly pauses mindplay and goes to Aerial view. I have to hit remote to resume play. Very annoying. Does not happen with Netflix.
Any advice?
Hi NC,
Unfortunately, free-to-air catch up apps are prone to crash like this. I would recommend deleting and reinstalling the ABC iview app.
Let me know how you go.
