Finally, Nine itself includes a variety of news and sports coverage in addition to bigger shows such as Married at First Sight, LEGO Mastersand Celebrity Apprentice Australia.
On 9Now, you can watch a variety of genres, from drama to reality. Popular titles include The Thing About Pam, Resident Alien, Survivor US, Love Island UK, La Brea, Travel Guides and more.
In addition to watching the latest episodes of current TV shows, you can also catch up on some old favourites. For example, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Sea Patrol and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are available for viewing. Keep in mind that 9Now doesn't always have every episode of older series, so you can't always look to start from the beginning of a show and binge your way through.
You can search for shows in your favourite genre (sport, comedy and travel are just a few of the options) and you can browse the entire library before signing up.
Speaking of sport, you can stream selected NRL games each week including the State of Origin live and on-demand on 9Now. 9Now also screens the grand slam tennis tournaments, including the Australian Open.
For catch-up TV, you'll need to wait until a show has aired on TV before it appears on 9Now. Because some shows air a few hours later in different parts of the country, a good rule is that an episode will be up by midday on the day following its airing. How long it'll stay available on the catch-up service varies from show to show, but you can find each episode's expiry date clearly listed below its description.
At the end of 2022, 9Now was available in full HD. It also introduced a "start over" function, where if you're watching live TV on 9Now and come in late, you can click start over and it will take you back to the beginning of the episode.
What devices are compatible with 9Now?
Since 9Now streams over the internet rather than through a traditional over-the-air broadcast, you can tune in through a wide range of internet-enabled devices.
If you want to watch 9Now content on the go, you have 2 main options. For Apple users, the 9Now iOS app is supported by iPhones and iPads running iOS 12.0+. For Android users, the 9Now Android app requires an Android phone or tablet running Android 5+.
Accessing 9Now on your computer is as simple as loading up the website with a supported browser – Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.
The 9Now app also works on Telstra TV, Fetch, the Foxtel iQ box, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, FreeviewPlus, Apple TV and selected Samsung, Hisense, Android and LG smart TVs.
The 9Now app was previously available on PlayStation 4, but this was discontinued from 30 June 2022 and you are no longer able to watch 9Now on a PS4.
How do I connect to 9Now on my TV?
While the 9Now app is available on smart TVs and streaming devices, it isn't as simple as downloading the app and signing in to watch 9Now. You need to activate it first, which means you'll need a second device to go through this process. You will need either a computer, laptop, mobile or tablet.
If you're using a computer or laptop, you need to do the following:
On your computer or laptop, head to 9Now's homepage and click on "Connect your TV" in the top right corner.
On your device, it will ask you to log in or create a new 9Now account, so do whichever applies to you.
Launch the 9Now app on your TV, then select something to watch. A login screen will appear and you need to select the login button.
A 6-digit code will show on your TV screen, which you need to enter on your computer.
You will need to wait a short period while the code is submitted (around 30 seconds) and then your selected content should start playing.
If you're using your mobile or tablet, you need to follow these steps:
Open the 9Now app on your device and log in.
Select "Connect your TV" from the menu
Launch the 9Now app on your TV, then select something to watch. A login screen will appear and you need to select the login button.
A 6-digit code will show on your TV screen, which you need to enter on your device.
You will need to wait a short period while the code is submitted (around 30 seconds) and then your selected content should start playing.
Although it's a complex process to initially set up the app on your TV, you don't have to do this every time you watch 9Now. Keep in mind though that if you only watch 9Now sporadically, you will have to repeat the process if you haven't used the app for over 90 days. You will also have to repeat this process when the app is updated.
