Install sizes for Fallout 4, Call of Duty Black Ops III, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Star Wars Battlefront and more revealed. The need to update your Xbox One or PlayStation 4 with an external hard drive just became more urgent.
The end-of-year rush of video games is on, just as it is every year, and owners of a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One have some serious time to log on their couch in the coming months. This may not be the best end-of-year the games industry has ever seen, but it’s still full of plenty of excellent blockbusters from some the industry’s biggest brands. However, unlike any generation to proceed it – unless you count the dreaded save cards of the PS2 era – console gamers have to consider their available hard drive space before making a purchase.
Every game must be installed to be played nowadays. It’s for this reason, we created a database of every Xbox One game install size and every single PlayStation 4 game install size. This database can help you keep track of the raw – prior to patches and DLC - install sizes of games so you can manage your space effectively. There are now over 800 games in the list, making for the most comprehensive resources in existence.
In the process of updating the database today, we unearthed the install sizes for a number of blockbusters for this end-of-year period and boy do they add up. Here is what you’re looking at in order of release date;
|Title||Release date||Install size (GB)|
|Assassin's Creed Syndicate||23-Oct-15|
|Call of Duty Black Ops III||6-Nov-15||45.00|
|Halo 5: Guardians||27-Oct-15||46.19|
|Star Wars Battlefront||19-Nov-15||19.39|
|Just Cause 3||1-Dec-15||42.49|
It’s a grand total of 240GB of hard drive space, and that’s assuming there is no day one patch. For PlayStation owners, swap out Halo 5: Guardians for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (which weighs in at 41.4GB) and you have close to the same requirements. We got lucky, too, as Fallout 4 has come in a lot smaller than many would have expected, given its scope and genre.
Please note: These sizes are all based on the Xbox One install requirement because, at the time of writing, the only one of these games to have their PS4 install size revealed is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. On PS4, the game is 40GB, so basically the same. We anticipate similarities between consoles for all these games, however, if you look at our article The Top 20 Disparities in PS4 and XBO Install Sizes, you will see that on occasion the difference can be extreme.
