Volkswagen's cheapest R model will not leave punters wanting for more power, with the 2022 T-Roc R packing a full 221kW punch.

Volkswagen Australia has revealed full pricing and specifications for its 2022 T-Roc R ahead of the high-performance crossover's Aussie arrival in August.

Priced from $59,300 before on-road costs, this entry-level R model undercuts the new Mk8 Golf R hatch by $6,690.

Despite this, the T-Roc R offers just as much power as the Golf R, featuring the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque.

Exclusively offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, it can cover the 0 to 100km/h dash in just 4.9 seconds.

Adaptive chassis control with a Race mode setting and a progressive steering system are also added over standard T-Roc models to enhance the driving experience.

Outside, the 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc R rides on 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels and has its looks enhanced with an illuminated grille strip, R badging, matt silver mirror caps, lowered ride height, quad exhaust pipes and a gloss black rear diffuser.

A redesigned cabin will feature in all 2022 T-Roc models, with a new fascia that incorporates a dual-zone climate control panel, piano black trim and soft-touch materials.
