2022 CUPRA Ateca shapes up ahead of Australian launch, priced from $60,990
The mid-range offering from the newest brand to enter Australia, the 2022 CUPRA Ateca comes boasting 221kW and a luxuriously-equipped interior.
CUPRA, the newest car brand to enter the Australian market, has detailed full pricing and specifications for its Ateca performance SUV ahead of the brand's launch in June 2022.
Set to slot between the Leon hatchback and Formentor crossover when the brand officially launches Down Under, with CUPRA emerging as a standalone performance offshoot of Volkswagen-owned Spanish manufacturer SEAT in 2018, it comes based on the regular SEAT Ateca available in parts of Europe.
Based on the guts of the Volkswagen Golf R, it sports the familiar "EA888" 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 221kW and 400Nm, which comes mated to a 7-speed DSG and Haldex all-wheel drive system, helping it scoot from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Just one variant will be offered in Australia – the top-spec VZx, priced from $60,990 before on-road costs but offered at a drive-away price of $65,990 at launch.
The Ateca VZx stands out thanks to black and copper-coloured 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting front and rear, and an optional Akrapovic exhaust system with big quad tips at the back which is a unique offering for the Ateca. Upgraded Brembo brakes and a full panoramic sunroof are also optionally available.
Despite the unique copper highlights, a hallmark of the CUPRA brand, the paint palette isn't the most vibrant. Nevada White, Graphite Grey and Magic Black are offered as standard, and Dark Camouflage is offered at a premium.
Inside, it comes luxuriously equipped with Petrol Blue leather upholstery complemented by copper stitching, with heavily-bolstered front bucket seats that are heated and power adjustable with memory for the driver. Keyless entry with push-button start, 3-zone climate control, a heated steering-wheel, ambient interior lighting, illuminated scuff plates and aluminium pedals also feature.
Tech-wise, it adds the latest Volkswagen Group tech with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit instrument cluster and 9.2-inch infotainment display, with satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. There's also a 10-speaker Beats audio system and a wireless phone charger, although it comes ahead of the curve with only USB-C charging ports as standard.
The Ateca, along with all other CUPRA models, will come with 3 years of free servicing, along with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
Orders for the 2022 CUPRA Ateca and the rest of the CUPRA range are set to commence from June 2022.
