Joining the existing Sport Limited Edition models, the 2022 Audi Q5 35 TDI Limited Edition is expected to remain a staple of the range.

Audi is welcoming the new entry-point to its 2022 Q5 SUV range, with the 35 TDI Limited Edition model joining the line-up alongside the 2 existing Sport Limited Edition models.

Priced at $68,350 before options and on-road costs, the 35 TDI Limited Edition marks a $9,250 saving over the next-cheapest model, the 40 TDI, and boasts a detuned version of the same 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine.

Producing 120kW and 370Nm, it comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as well, but the 35 TDI does lack all-wheel drive, instead making do with front-wheel drive only.

With the aid of a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, the 35 TDI achieves an incredible fuel consumption claim of just 4.8L/100km. Audi claims this to be the most economical diesel engine in Australia.

Although lacking some of the more potent diesel's oomph, the 35 TDI Limited Edition does still come with a strong list of standard equipment, highlighted outside by 20-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, an electric tailgate and heated exterior mirrors and windscreen washer jets.

Inside, leather-appointed upholstery comes standard, as do electric front seats with heading and 4-way lumbar support; a 40:20:40 split folding arrangement features in the rear.

Colour ambient interior lighting, 3-zone climate control and a frameless auto-dimming interior mirror also feature inside.

Technology is headlined by the 10.1-inch touchscreen MMI Navigation Plus infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 7.0-inch digital driver information display in the gauge cluster. Digital radio and an 8-speaker audio system also come standard.

An array of active safety technology also comes as standard, including "Audi pre sense" Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, active lane assist, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic assist, high beam assist and "Audi parking system plus" with a rear-view camera.

Although offered currently in Limited Edition guise only, Nick Reid, general manager marketing at Audi Australia, notes that the 35 TDI is expected to remain a staple of the range.

"With the introduction of this model and the curation of our 2 Sport Limited Edition models, we are ensuring that we are bringing the most attractive vehicles possible to the premium market at this time," he says.

"Beyond the current Limited Edition offer, we expect that the 35 TDI model will occupy a permanent position in the Q5 range."

Currently, the Q5 is only offered in its current 3-pronged range of Limited Edition and Sport Limited Edition variants due to global parts shortages, with key features such as the panoramic sunroof and certain interior lighting removed to ensure these models are priced lower than usual.

The 2022 Audi Q5 Limited Edition range is available in Australian dealerships now.
