How did we calculate these scores?

To calculate the Finder scores, we take published review scores from car testers and add them together, before determining the mean average. For example, if a car had four reviews, three at 85%, one at 70%, we'd add the total together, divide it by the number of reviews and that gives us the average score of 81.25%.

Electric vehicle FAQs

What does kWh mean?

kWh is short for kilowatt hours. This unit is used to show the size of the vehicle's electric capacity. The larger the number, the larger the battery pack. You can equate this to the size of the fuel tank in a car with a combustion engine.

Having a bigger battery pack doesn't mean you'll travel further between chargers though. It depends on how efficiently the electric motor uses the power.

What is range?

Range is the total distance an EV can travel on a single charge, though like fuel economy figures, this depends on your driving style and the road conditions.

How much range do I need?

You might be tempted to go for a car with the largest possible range, but you should analyse your typical driving to see how far you travel each week. Remember, the average Australian commute is just 32km per day – or 16km one-way.
