2016 Finder Innovation Awards: Categories and how to enter

Who can enter?

Any company operating in Australia can enter in relevant categories. The innovation you're nominating must have been introduced to the Australian market in 2016 (or active in the market for Best Online Customer Service and Most Innovative Team/Person).

What information will I need to enter?

For each category, there are five questions you'll need to answer. Each answer can be a maximum of 200 words. We'd suggest writing the answers in your favourite word processor and then pasting them into the entry form.

Below, we've listed each of the categories, the types of companies and innovations we think would make good entries and the questions you'll need to answer in that category.

Best Telco Customer Innovation

Who can enter: Any telco operating in Australia (including network providers and MVNOs)

What would make a good entry? A new or enhanced mobile app, a new customer management system, an enhanced website, new features for customers

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - What about this telco customer innovation makes it original in the Australian market?
  • Technological Innovation - What is innovative about the technology used or created?
  • Usability - Describe how this innovation is used in practice, how is it designed with the user in mind?
  • Impact - How does this innovation impact the market?
  • Range of Impact - What is the scope of impact of this innovation, eg: Australia only, world-wide, limited audience or available to all?

Best Tech Innovation

Who can enter: Any companies in Australia can enter

What would make a good entry? A new or enhanced mobile app, use of a new technology (e.g. NFC), back-end improvements

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - What about this tech innovation makes it original in the Australian market?
  • Technological Innovation - What is innovative about the technology used or created?
  • Usability - Describe how this innovation is used in practice, how is it designed with the user in mind?
  • Impact - What is the impact of this technological innovation?
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this tech innovation reach in practice?

Best Mobile Payments Service

Who can enter: Banks and other financial institutions

What would make a good entry? Any service that makes it easier to make payments from your mobile

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - What is original about this mobile payments service?
  • Technological Innovation - What is innovative about the technology used or created?
  • Usability - How does this mobile payments service improve usability?
  • Impact - What is the impact of this technological innovation?
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this tech innovation reach?

Best Internet Banking

Who can enter: Banks and other financial institutions

What would make a good entry? Any online banking platform (highlight newly-added features and enhancements)

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - What is original about this internet banking service?
  • Technological Innovation - What is innovative about the technology used or created?
  • Usability - How does this internet banking service improve usability?
  • Impact - How does this service impact the market?
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this tech innovation reach?

Best Personal Finance App

Who can enter: App developers, banks and other financial institutions

What would make a good entry? Any app that helps facilitate your personal finances

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - What is original about this personal finance app?
  • Technological Innovation - What is innovative about the technology used or created?
  • Usability - How does this personal finance app improve usability?
  • Impact - How does this service impact the market?
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this personal finance app reach?

Best Online Customer Service

Who can enter: Banks and other financial institutions, insurers, online stores, telcos

What would make a good entry? Include evidence of the range of support options for customers online

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - Please describe this team/person's original approach to customer service.
  • Technological Innovation - How is technology used to make customer service more effective?
  • Teamwork - How do the customer service team work together to improve the customer experience?
  • Impact - What impact does customer service have on the organisation overall? (Customer satisfaction, retention etc)
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this customer service team reach?

Most Innovative Team/Person

Who can enter: Any companies in Australia can enter

What would make a good entry? Anyone who has driven innovation in your business

Questions you'll need to answer

  • Originality - Please describe this team/person's original approach to a problem.
  • Technological Innovation - How did this team/person use technology to solve the problem?
  • Teamwork - How did this team work together to achieve innovation? How did this person work with others to achieve goals?
  • Impact - What is the impact of this team/person's work?
  • Range of Impact - How big an audience does this team/person's innovation reach?

Gold Innovation Award

There is no formal nomination process for this category; it will be awarded to the highest-scoring entry and announced on the night.
