Have a favourite show you previously couldn't access in Australia? It may be one of the 102 new series on Disney+ Star.

There are few things more frustrating than being unable to find a way to watch a beloved TV show. Even with as many streaming services as there currently are, some shows still aren't available.

Disney+ had already cornered a major slice of the streaming market by owning the likes of Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar and, of course, Disney.

Now that reach is only set to extend thanks to its new tile, Star. Launching on 23 February, Star boasts the 21st Century Fox library of content it acquired in 2019. This finally means Disney+ won't just have children's content and now has adult programming.

For Australians, that also means the addition of some previously unavailable titles to a streaming platform. Popular shows like Black-ish, Bob's Burgers and Fresh Off the Boat were only available to rent or buy in Australia before Star.

Supernatural dramas like Angel or Sleepy Hollow, detective show Castle and further adult animations Brickleberry and The Cleveland Show are all now on Star. Ugly Betty, My Name is Earl, Alias, Blossom – yep, they're on Star too.

Yet it's not just new arrivals to streaming that are part of Star's arsenal. The platform is also adding new seasons of shows you can access elsewhere. Various seasons of long-running animation Family Guy can be accessed on Stan, 7plus and Foxtel, but you can only get the latest season 18 on Star.

It's a similar story with Grey's Anatomy, which has been running since 2005. Once the domain of free-to-air television, the most recent seasons 15, 16 and 17 of Grey's Anatomy are now available on Star.

It is the industry expectation that many top shows will slowly be removed from competitive platforms and become the exclusive domain of Disney+. Content is king in the streaming wars and Disney+ is intent on securing as much as possible as it takes the fight firmly to Netflix and others.
